Backyard Pumptrack

This past spring I took it upon myself to design and build a pumptrack...for...myself. I wanted one that was fast, had double options, and mainly turned to the right. Why? Because I suffer from Nascar syndrome; I turn left great, but not to the right. I also wanted it to be uni-directional. I have never, ever ridden a pumptrack that was built to be ridden in both directions that really felt good. By building it to be ridden in one direction only, you can really go crazy with the dirt sculpting to make it flow as good as possible.

Trail work in the pouring rain

Sometimes you just have to buck up and get out there in the absolute worst conditions ever to get things done. This time it was just pissing rain sooooo hard the whole day. We nearly killed my chainsaw, it was sucking up so much water that it would barely run, but we managed, and it was totally worth it.

Opened an old DH trail

I went in and opened up an old DH trail that I built a few years ago near Blowing Rock (NOT canyons) recently. Its at a compound with 4 other trails as well. The first and last pics are from my trail, and the 2nd pic is from the trail that Mueller built there. I was surprised to find that the trails were in perfect condition since its been under full leaf cover for so long. Straight up rake and ride!

New bits for 2011

SEI Racing has hooked up with Fox Shox for our official fork sponsor for 2011. I swapped out my white 2010 40 for a black 2011 and I also put a 32 Talas 150-120mm fork on my Shova. Feels like butter

Trying a new angle with the GoProHD

A few weeks ago we played around with a follow cam setup with the GoPro. It kinda worked out well, maybe on a track with less tight turns than this it would look better.

Winter Riding

This picture was taken two weeks ago at the top of Sinkhole.
Now all the trails have melted the snow and are running perfect.
As perfect as January riding in the High Country gets I guess. The
only issues now are the temperatures. If you go for a ride when
its above freezing the trails start to ooze water and the FS roads
get all mushy and super hard to pedal up. Oh well I guess thats
just part of the game, good training eh. hahaha

Learning the trails again

I think I accidentally deleted my mental trail map of Wilson Creek while I was out in Oregon learning new trails. Its been so awesome riding all the badass trails in Pisgah and bringing it all back together in my head so I can think of different loops to do. Wilson Creek and Pisgah in general have some of the best and most fun trails around.
